show review: Good Neighbours
Good Neighbours — You may have heard this name floating around TikTok or Instagram, and there absolutely is a good reason for that. The UK indie rockers just embarked on their US tour supporting Foster The People this winter and Portland’s Crystal Ballroom was home to two back-to-back sold out shows.
Good Neighbours started making music in 2023 and officially released their first single in January of 2024, a nostalgic hit titled “Home” that went viral on TikTok.
Founding members Oli Fox and Scott Verrill have expressed that they’re strongly influenced by big indie pop bands of the 2000s like Passion Pit, MGMT, and Vampire Weekend, and it’s hard to miss that when listening to Good Neighbours.
Experiencing Good Neighbours’ set was like stepping out of that dreary January day and into spring break, with the funky synth and melodic vocals truly transforming the energy in the room. Their music feels like long drives with the windows down and the music blaring out your car speakers, or like stepping outside and immediately feeling the warmth of the sun on your face. I actually wrote in my notes that it felt like I could be in a coming-of-age movie with this as the soundtrack, and I feel like that really embodies the vibes that I’m talking about.
Good Neighbours is going to go far, and with songs like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them release another hit track that’ll become 2025’s song of the summer!
